It’s now a matter of weeks before gamers will be able to pick up a digital or physical copy of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2. The game is already pegged to be one of the biggest launches this year and most people expect Rockstar and Take-Two to make a clean sweep in the sales department this fall with the new release. To help get and keep gamers hyped for the upcoming AAA release, Rockstar released a new gameplay trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, focusing on the improved Dead-Eye system as well as a few other gameplay features that have seen a much-needed upgrade over the previous iteration.
The trailer was rolled out today on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel. It’s nearly four and a half minutes long, and covers a ton of features. The video explains that players will be able to engage in a number of nefarious activities, including robbing coaches, robbing trains, robbing banks, and robbing stores. You can loan shark, explore the massive world, and engage in a number of side-activities. We also finally get a look at the new Dead-Eye system, which will level-up as you progress through the game.
The Dead-Eye system is very much like the original system, insofar that time slows down and you’ll be able to pick your shots. But the way it’s used is drastically different in Red Dead 2. For instance, you can now use Dead-Eye with every weapon, including while dual-wielding. As you level-up the system the Dead-Eye becomes more advanced, enabling you to target vital areas of enemies, as well as paint multiple targets at a time.
You’ll need the Dead-Eye system as you encounter various enemies throughout your journey, including many located throughout the very dangerous side activities, such as robbing other NPCs. The system is based on an evolved version of what was present in GTA IV and GTA V, so you don’t have to shoot and kill people to take their stuff. You can just point your gun in their general direction or fire into the air to get them to stop. Much like other Rockstar games, it appears as if Red Dead Redemption 2 is running on an advanced version of the Euphoria engine, which is what helped bring the NPCs to life in previous open-world Rockstar titles.
Being an outlaw doesn’t come without consequence, though. The more you shoot and kill the more likely you’ll end up with a bounty on your head, at which point you’ll need to fend off your attackers and attempt to make a clean getaway, not unlike when the stars start racking up in GTA. Alternatively you can also be the hunter, and take on bounty jobs as well. I do wonder if this will carry over into the multiplayer mode. It would be pretty cool if people from multiplayer could become the bounty hunters in other gamers’ single-player playthroughs.
