Bits of Melania Trump’s first-ever televised interview aired Friday on Good Morning America, and the sit-down with ABC reporter Tom Llamas included the First Lady delving into her thoughts on everything from the #MeToo movement to her anti-cyberbullying campaign.
But when she was asked her about her husband’s rumored extramarital affairs, which include a relationship with adult-film star Stormy Daniels, Trump brushed off the alleged infidelity as media speculation.
In a new clip, FLOTUS responds to questions about whether the rumored affairs have put a strain on her marriage by saying, “It is not a concern and a focus of mine. I’m a mother and a First Lady, and I have much more important things to think about and to do. I know people like to speculate and the media likes to speculate about our marriage.”
Llamas then asks her if she has been hurt by the rumors, and Trump pauses before she answers carefully.
“It’s not always pleasant, of course, but I know what is right and what is wrong and what is true and not true,” she said.
Allegations that President Trump had been unfaithful began circulating after Daniels claimed she’d signed a non-disclosure agreement and received $130,000 from Trump’s lawyers to keep quiet about an affair in 2006. If Daniels’ story is true, it would have happened just after Melania gave birth to her only son with President Trump. Another woman, former Playboy model Karen McDougal, has also alleged that she had an affair with Trump around the same time.
The president has denied both claims.
In Friday’s interview, Melania answered positively when asked if she still loves her husband. “Yes, we are fine,” she said. “It’s what media speculate, and it’s gossip. It’s not always correct stuff.”
The interview special, which is called “Being Melania: The First Lady,” will air in its entirety at 10 p.m. Friday on ABC. The sit-down already made headline earlier this week, following a released clip that showed Mrs. Trump saying women should have “hard evidence” before making sexual assault claims and for asserting she is one of the most bullied people in the world.
The special is slated to also include her reactions to her controversial “I Really Don’t Care, Do U?'” jacket and her relationship to the Trump administration.
