While the ceremony wont’ arrive until late February, moviegoers and cinephiles and moviegoers alike are already thinking about the Academy Awards. Awards season is in full bloom, with plenty of projects coming to theaters that are expected to pick up major nominations. The first of these projects is Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut A Star Is Born, which has already accrued a number of Golden Globe noms.
Pop star Lady Gaga makes her leading lady debut in A Star Is Born, playing unknown singer Ally, and slipping away from her costumes and real-life fame for the project. Gaga has been very open about her process of acting and singing in the drama, and recently revealed she can’t get through the second half of A Star Is Born. Mostly because she loves Bradley Cooper’s character Jackson Maine so much. As she tells it,
It looks like Lady Gaga still hasn’t let go of her character Ally from A Star Is Born. As such, seeing Ally’s one true love and husband onscreen elicits a strong reaction from the “Poker Face” singer. So she’s sticking to the warm and fuzzy parts about the movie… at least, for now.
Lady Gaga’s comments toThe L.A. Times show how connected she still is to her Star Is Born role. While certain movie fans will roll their eyes at hardcore method acting a la Jared Leto in Suicide Squad, some characters are easier to let go than others. And considering Lady Gaga also worked so intimately on the flow of the project and its music, she’s understandably changed from the experience of her leading lady debut.
Considering Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s multifaceted roles in A Star Is Born, the duo are strong contenders to snatch a few trophies throughout Awards Season. The Golden Globes have already recognized the movie, which is competing in the drama categories rather than musical.
