Ariana Grande loves Halloween. She’s made this clear on several occasions. From haunted houses to ghosts to actual “demon” experiences, the Sweetener singer is big on all things spooky. Just this past Monday she sang a witchy song from the musical Wicked on national television! If Taylor Swift is the queen of Fourth of July, then Grande is the undisputed lead on Halloween.
So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that when James Corden asked her to complete a haunted escape room for a segment on the Late Late Show, she was game. What might surprise you, though, is how genuinely terrified she got during the experience.
“You told me it was an escape room, not hell,” Grande told Corden as they walked into the first room of the challenge, which was, naturally, pitch-black. Keep in mind that right before this Grande raved to Corden about how she “loves” being scared. “I think it’s so much fun,” she said.
But what transpired in their escape room was the furthest thing from fun. At one point, a spooky zombie woman popped out of a bed and startled both Grande and Corden. And when they actually completed the challenge, they were chased off by another crawling zombie. In their breathless escape from the actual escape room, Grande managed to hurt her hand.
“That was traumatic,” Grande said once they arrived safely back in Corden’s car. “I’ve done 300 escape rooms. That’s not an escape room; that’s one of the seven gates to hell!”
Thankfully, she’s not sweating her injury. “I’m not gonna lie: Don’t I look kind of hard?” she asked Corden about the bandage wrapped around her hand. Are we having fun yet?
