Update, 02/29/2020: Hilary Duff has clarified all that shade she threw at Disney+ earlier this week.
The Younger star put out a statement on her Instagram asking the powers that be at Disney to move the Lizzie McGuire reboot to Hulu (also owned by Disney), like they just did with the upcoming Love, Simon series.
“Was incredibly excited to launch ‘Lizzie’ on D+ and my passion remains,” Duff wrote. “However, I feel a huge responsibility to honor the fans’ relationship with Lizzie who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her. I’d be doing a disservice to everyone by limiting the realities of a 30-year-old’s journey to live under the ceiling of a PG rating.”
Duff went on to ask for a chance to bring it to the other streaming service. “It’s important to me that just as her experiences as a preteen/teenager navigating life were authentic, her next chapters are equally as real and relatable,” the actress continued. “It would be a dream if Disney would let us move the show to Hulu, if they were interested, and I could bring this beloved character to life again.”
Original story, 02/26/2020: To say Hilary Duff fans were excited when she announced a Lizzie McGuire reboot on Disney+ would be an extreme understatement.
The singer-actor let fans in on the big news last August during a Disney+ event in California. “The good news is, just like me and everybody who loved Lizzie and has grown up with her, Lizzie’s also grown up,” she said. “She’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget, which is super exciting. She has her dream job. She has kind of the perfect life right now.”
