Singer and Rapper Aaron Carter dies in California at the age of 34

Carter's family representatives have confirmed the singer's death and did not provide further comment.

Carter, the younger brother of Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys, performed as an opening act for his brother's boy band alongside Britney Spears, and appeared in the family reality series House of Carters which aired on E!  entertainment television.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputy Alejandra Parra said it responded at about 11 a.m. after a medical emergency was reported at the home in Lancaster.

In recent years, Carter has been engrossed in mental health issues and drug addiction, saying during a 2019 interview on the television show "The Doctors" that he now suffers from a form of social identity disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety and manic depression.

That same year, Nick Carter filed a restraining order against his younger brother after he allegedly stated that he had thoughts of killing Nick Carter's wife.

Aaron Charles Carter was an American rapper, singer, and actor.  He came to fame as a pop and hip hop singer in the late 1990s, establishing himself as a star among pre-teen and teen audiences with four of his studio albums during the first years of the 21st century.
