The Dalgona Martini is Your Favorite Whipped Coffee Drink With a Kick

The Dalgona Martini is the new craze sweeping the internet.

In the last few months, people in quarantine have been whipping together instant coffee and sugar to create the most Instagramable frothy beverages. That is when they’re not fashioning their pancakes into cereal or perfecting their banana bread recipe.

We’ve seen everything from whipped strawberry milk to whipped Nutella—and now, TikTok‘s favorite drink has been given a kick with this latest, alcoholic update.

The Dalgona Martini is very similar to the original concept, except it requires chilled coffee-flavored liqueur rather than milk. So, RumChata, Kahlúa, and Baileys Irish Cream lovers…this one’s for you. Bartender and cocktail enthusiast Lucy Morton, who described the drink as “somewhere between a milk punch and an espresso martini,” shared her recipe on Instagram last month. (For her concoction, she used Courvoisier VSOP.)

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons instant coffee

  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

  • 2 tablespoons hot water

  • 50ml milk (you can also use oat, soy, and almond)

  • 50ml Courvoisier VSOP

  • 25ml vanilla/caramel/butterscotch syrup OR 12.5ml vanilla essence and 12.5ml sugar syrup

  • Ice

  • A whisk

  • Cocktail shaker

Directions:

  1. Whisk together the coffee, sugar and hot water until it turns a light brown color.

  2. In the cocktail shaker, add vanilla syrup or essence mix, milk, and Courvoisier VSOP.

  3. Shake well with ice before straining into a chilled martini glass.

  4. Dollop the frothed coffee on the drink and add coffee or cocoa powder.

There are tons of other versions of the Dalgona Martini floating around social media—and they all look truly delicious.

This Instagram user even added red velvet-flavored Bailey to make her drink pink.

It’s clear that the only thing better than whipped coffee is whipped coffee with alcohol in it. Plus, as we continue to practice social distancing amid the coronavirus pandemic, it looks like people are finding different ways to take the edge off. To be honest, we can’t believe we haven’t been doing this the whole time.
