People Are Gifting Delivery Drivers Toilet Paper and Hand Sanitizer, and Now I’m Crying

As demand for household essentials, like toilet paper and hand sanitizer, reach an all-time high due to the coronavirus, the tireless workers tasked with delivering products to our door may not have the time to purchase what they need to get by.

Of course, stores are attempting to meet the demands of consumers, but their stocks simply can’t refill as quickly as they’re emptying, leading many Americans to rely on delivery services more than usual. Amazon has even announced it will be hiring 100,000 additional warehouse and delivery workers to fulfill the increase of orders.

And people are showing their gratitude to these employees on social media. TikTok user @evaneramagic posted a video on his account after leaving hand sanitizer and toilet paper outside his door for delivery drivers to take for free. “Take care of the people who are taking care of you,” he said in his caption..

In the clip, a courier is seen walking up to the door to deliver a package before noticing the sign that reads, “Delivery drivers: Take it if you need it! Thank you for all your hard work.” The courier then knocks on the door to double-check that he really can take the package of toilet paper and bottle of hand sanitizer.

“Aw man, you a life-saver, thank you. I went to Walmart, it’s kind of hard, though,” the courier says. “I didn’t get toilet paper…thank you, I appreciate it.”

Thankfully, this TikTok user isn’t the only person who’s had this idea. In Glendale, Arizona, someone left a cardboard package filled with water bottles, Gatorade, cans of soup, and rolls of toilet paper for UPS, FedEx, USPS, and Amazon drivers. On March 21, one driver shared the story on Instagram.

“I’m a courier. I deliver to so many types of places everyday. Businesses, houses, apartments, hospitals, you name it, I’ll deliver,” the poster wrote in the caption. “This house I just left had this box on the porch. So thoughtful. So caring. In a time when people are panicking and hoarding everything for no really good reason, these people are willingly giving it away. We need waaaaay more of this. Everyone needs to see this….P.S., I didn’t need anything, so I didn’t take anything. That’s how we also need to be.”

This is one social media trend we should all get behind.
