It’’s official: John Legend is People’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2019. His wife, Chrissy Teigen, teased the news on Twitter last night, writing, “I have big news and it’s killing me I can’t say it and it’s not a baby.”
Now the singer and Voice judge can add SMA to his EGOT status. “I was excited, but I was a little scared at the same time because it’s a lot of pressure,” he told People. “Everyone’s going to be picking me apart to see if I’m sexy enough to hold this title. I’m [also] following Idris Elba, which is not fair and is not nice to me!” He reacted simply on Twitter: “Wow. Thank you, @people. #SexiestManAlive.”
Legend also wasn’t afraid to poke a little fun at himself. “1995 John would be very perplexed to be following 2018 @IdrisElba as #SexiestManAlive,” he tweeted. “Hell, 2019 John is about as equally perplexed but thank you @People for finding me sexy. I’ll take it 🤓.”
If you immediately reacted to this news by asking, “What did Chrissy say?” you are not alone—and of course, Teigen didn’t disappoint. First she tweeted, “My secret is out. I have fulfilled my dream of having boned @people’s sexiest man alive!! an honor!!!!!”
She followed it up with some classic Chrissy attitude for the trolls out there. “I cannot WAIT for people to get mad about John being the sexiest man alive. it’s my new Starbucks holiday cup,” she wrote. “No don’t send it to me please. I like to see these people naturally, in the wild.”
Not even the world’s sexiest man is safe from her barbs.
The rest of the Twitter-sphere had thoughts, too. “Dear John. Massive congrats on joining this prestigious group. 99% of the time People get it right. ie Blake, DJ. A a word of caution. There’s the 1%. It’s important you fall in w the right crowd. Enjoy your reign. HJ,” former Sexiest Man Hugh Jackman tweeted.
Naturally, there were some detractors, especially Jason Momoa fans.
Personally I think John Legend is a great choice. But special congrats to Teigen on fulfilling her dream.
