It’s a great time to be a horror fan, as the genre has gone through a renaissance over the past few years, with movies like Get Out even being recognized at the Academy Awards. Blumhouse brought that movie and other original projects to theaters, but the studio has since turned its attention to the classics: Halloween. David Gordon Green’s 2018 Halloween movie was a massive success last October, and now two more movies have been green lit, forming a new trilogy. Jamie Lee Curtis is back on set as Laurie Strode, and recently showed our first new glimpse at the final girl, who is looking a bit worse for the wear.
Laurie Strode went through an emotional and physical journey in Blumhouse’s Halloween. The movie ignored the sequels, showing an adult Laurie who was still reeling from the trauma of Michael Myers’ attack. But her preparedness paid off, allowing Laurie, Karen, and Allyson to survive his return to Haddonfield. But they didn’t get out unscathed, just take a look at Jamie Lee Curtis’ signature character below.
Yikes. Laurie went toe to toe with The Shape in 2018’s Halloween, and took some serious punishment from the hulking masked villain. And while she made it out alive after trapping him in her basement, she took her share amount of hits during that horrifying night.
This new image comes to us from Jamie Lee Curtis’ personal Twitter, letting fans in on what it was like her first day back on set. The image shows the 60 year-old actress in her trailer, suited up to play Laurie Strode for the whopping sixth time on film. She’s got Laurie’s new grey bob back on, as well as a ton of makeup to allow her to appear bruised and injured from fighting Michael.
The make up is truly impressive, with the detail-oriented work making Jamie Lee Curtis look covered in bruises. The work done on her fingernails is particularly well done, as they’re given cracks and dirt from Laurie’s second time fighting The Boogeyman. Laurie Strode was a bonafide badass in the latest movie, seemingly taking inspiration from Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2. She put up a good fight, although Karen’s training also heavily factored into their success.
Aside from showcasing Laurie’s wounded appearance for Halloween Kills, this new image seemingly reveals the setting of the sequel. Given Laurie’s bruises and injuries, it looks like the upcoming sequel will pick up directly after the events of Halloween (2018). After all, you can see the bruise on her head from where Michael smashed her head into the door during their conflict.
Of course, Halloween Kills still might utilize a time jump later during its runtime. This would allow for the Strode women to sit with their experiences with Michael Myers. Furthermore, the villain could return for the titular holiday during the upcoming sequel. But it is definitely exciting to se that Halloween Kills will directly follow up on where the last sequel left off.
The end of Halloween saw three generations of Strode women work together to get the best of The Shape. They shot, kicked, and stabbed the villain until he fell down the stairs to Laurie’s basement. He was trapped as the place was set ablaze, with Allyson hailing a truck to pick them up and escape. But clearly Michael survived, as will be back to get revenge once again.
It’ll be fascinating to see how Laurie’s relationship with Karen and Allyson evolves, now that they’ve also had a run in with Michael Myers. Luckily Halloween Kills will pick up the story immediately where it was left off, and hopefully explore how the women are coping in the wake of the traumatizing attack.
All will be revealed when Halloween Kills arrives in theaters on October 16th, 2020. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
