How Much Money Deadpool 2 Opened To Overseas

Last May is when Deadpool 2 opened, so you would think that it has squeezed all the money it can out of the box office at this point. But the Merc with a Mouth isn’t done just yet. Thanks to the PG-13 cut of the film, Once Upon a Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds’ hilarious anti-hero is still bringing in the bucks at the box office. The film just opened in China over the weekend bringing in $21.4 million.

The $21.4 million opening weekend was good enough for first place in China and brings Deadpool 2’s international box office haul to $443 million, according to Variety. It also pushes Deadpool 2 past X-Men: Days of Future Past on the worldwide chart to become the second-biggest Fox X-Men movie behind only the first Deadpool.

Whether Deadpool 2, which sits at about $767 million worldwide, can surpass the first film is less likely. Deadpool made $783.1 million worldwide, and the sequel is not expected to have major legs in China because, as Variety notes, the upcoming Chinese New Year will see the country’s box office dominated by domestic titles.

This is the first time that a Deadpool movie has been released in the Middle Kingdom, which has strict rules about sex and profanity onscreen. Therefore Deadpool and the original cut of Deadpool 2 were not released in the country. The tamer, less raunchy PG-13 cut of the sequel seems to have passed muster though, and Chinese audiences turned out at the theaters to see what they’ve been missing.

The PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 made $7 million worldwide after first releasing in December and China’s $21.4 million opening weekend makes the Once Upon A Deadpool experiment look even smarter in hindsight.

When it was first announced, a PG-13 cut of Deadpool 2 sounded like a way to pre-neuter the Merc with a Mouth for a new future under the family-friendly Disney umbrella. That may still be the case, but with the China release, you can see how this may have also been a play to break into that market.

China is the second-biggest box office market in the world, and making huge movies like Deadpool 2 which have no chance of playing there is undoubtedly the subject of major deliberation for publicly traded for-profit companies. Once Upon a Deadpool’s China opening was nothing on Bumblebee or Aquaman level, but it could potentially build on that number in the future.

What that future will be is anyone’s guess. Ryan Reynolds is reportedly working on Deadpool 3, but the X-Force movie has supposedly been cancelled because of the looming Disney-20th Century Fox merger. The future of X-Men movies seems very much up in the air at the moment, but Deadpool has proven his popularity and profitability now in China, so you have to think he’ll be back, one way or another.

Chris Pratt Sees Less Work And More Kids In His Future

Chris Pratt is a busy man. The A-list actor keeps himself occupied through a number of high-profile blockbusters, and it seems that he has a blooming career in his wake that continues to rise with each new project. But Pratt is a family man at heart. As much as glitz and glamor of Hollywood might help him provide food on the table (and then some), the actor is ultimately more interested in building a family than building a career at this current moment.

That’s what Chris Pratt claims, at least, during an interview promoting his newest film, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part— where he reprises the role of Emmet Brickowski from 2014’s hit animated film. Turns out, while he continues to field projects left-and-right, he’s setting his sights on having kids.

The comment came during an exclusive interview with Entertainment Tonight. It was only a few weeks ago when Chris Pratt confirmed the news that he’s engaged to his new girlfriend, Katherine Schwarzenegger. And it sounds like once they are officially wed, they are going to have a heap of kids. If things go according to plan for Pratt, that is. While he’s still keeping himself busy as an actor, particularly with his involvement with Marvel, the actor is hoping to build upon his family life in the years to come. And if that means sacrificing a few roles in order to spend time with the family, then so be it.

Of course, his response is filled with “maybes,” so maybe don’t rule out the possibility of Chris Pratt keeping focused on his day job — especially if it helps bring home a whole lot of cash. Pratt’s profile is on the up-and-up, and if things keep going well for the rising actor, then maybe that’s where he will keep interests. But it sounds like building an extended family life with Katherine Schwarzenegger is Pratt’s plan for the future, and we shouldn’t be surprised to hear a few baby announcements once Schwarzenegger and Pratt get married sometime later this year.

It’s unclear how long Katherine Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt have been dating, but rumors suggest it’s been six months. The relationship was confirmed back in December, but it’s known they were dating for a little while before the announcement. But the couple is most definitely not wasting time when it comes to professing their love, and it might not be long before they confirm their family life is officially blooming. We’ll keep you posted.

Chris Pratt already has one son with his previous wife, Anna Faris. In their divorce settlement, Pratt and Faris agreed to live no further than five miles apart from each other, for the best interest of 6-year-old Jack Pratt. The settlement was agreed upon until Jack is 12-years-old, though it sounds like Chris Pratt will want to stay close to his son in the interest of remaining a tight knit family man in the years to come. Because family is his main focus.

The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part hits theaters on February 8th.

Glass Almost Included James McAvoy Rapping To Drake

Spoilers ahead for Glass

Before superhero movies and shared universes became commonplace, M. Night Shyamalan was putting his own spin on comic book lore with 2000’s Unbreakable. And when 2016’s Split arrived in theaters, it’s twist ending revealed the two movies were set within the same universe. That made room for Shyamalan’s new release Glass, which saw the characters from both movies combine in an epic way.

Perhaps the biggest standout performance of Glass comes from James McAvoy, who played a ton of different characters throughout the film’s 129 minute runtime. Reprising his role as Kevin from Split, McAvoy has to physically and vocally find a ton of separate personalities, including fan favorite Hedwig– a nine-year old boy. Hedwig is a major fan of Drake in Glass, and the actor recently revealed the film originally including him singing to one of Drizzy Drake’s tracks, saying:

There was a moment I sang a little bit of Drake and there were some proper good moves in that bit. I was like ‘This is a really good bit. This is my dance bit but I’m singing Drake.’ I was like ‘Should we do a bit where I don’t sing Drake?’ because Drake’s not going to give us this song for nothing.

What a smart man. Because while seeing Hedwig spit some bars form Drake’s catalogue wold have made for a hilarious scene in Glass, it probably would have cost the indie superhero movie a big chunk of change. And considering that the blockbuster didn’t have the massive funds available to other crossover movies like The Avengers, Drake just wasn’t in the budget.

James McAvoy’s comments to MTV News make a great deal of sense, given Glass‘ budget and M. Night Shyamalan’s personal stakes in the movie. Shyamalan has been quietly been funding his past few releases, including The Visit, Split, and Glass. This is a system that seems to have been working, as each box office success fuels the next project on the director’s plate.

Funding his own movies allows M. Night Shyamalan to retain full creative control, unencumbered by the intentions of the studio or the powers that be. But that also means he had to be very purposeful about using Glass‘ budget, which was a modest $20 million. Action sequences were few and far between, with much of the film’s runtime set within Ellie Staple’s mysterious facility. And while Hedwig made a ton of references to Drake’s music throughout the film’s first two acts, James McAvoy had the right idea with filming takes that didn’t include him singing along to the rapper’s catalogue. And just like that, an extra sum of money was made available.

While Hedwig didn’t get to belt out any tunes during the course of Glass, he did have a major role in the overall narrative. The trio of personalities Hedwig, Patricia, and Dennis still had the most power within The Horde– convincing Kevin’s other personalities to join the cause and support the murderous super- powered Beast.

Hedwig in particular was given more agency, as he was able to steal “The Light” from the rest of Kevin’s personalities throughout the course of the movie. Whenever Ellie Staple or the other characters attempted to reason with The Horde, Hedwig would take over and return to Kevin’s consciousness. Furthermore, it’s Hedwig’s fault that David ended up coming to battle The Horde during the film’s first act.

When Glass opens, it’s revealed that The Horde has been mutilating more groups of young girls in the three weeks since Split ended. Hedwig bumped into David aka The Overseer on one of his “walks”, allowing the hero to see where The Horde had kidnapped a group of cheerleaders. It’s likely this scene that included James McAvoy’s planned Drake song, as the 6-year old personality was shown wearing headphones, mumbling along, and dancing during their brief interaction.

Since Glass arrived in theaters, it’s already had a fascinating tenure with moviegoers. When reviews hit the internet, moviegoers were disheartened when the film was almost universally panned. Luckily, audience didn’t have quite as many problems with M. Night Shyamalan’s ambitious crossover movie, with Glass currently at a strong 77% on Rotten Tomatoes‘ Audience Score.

Audience’s reaction to Glass can be seen in the film’s box office performance. The blockbuster just won its third weekend in a row, and has already made an impressive worldwide haul of $162 million. There’s more money to come, so it appears that poor reviews alone are not strong enough to sink Shyamalan.

The success of Glass is multi-tiered, as there are a handful of reasons why audiences have responded to well to M. Night Shyamalan’s latest journey of superheroes and mind-blowing twists. Obviously part of it comes with the combined success of Unbreakable and Split before it. Split was contained thriller when it arrived in 2016, but the final scene revealed it was set within the same world as Unbreakable— Shyamalan’s 2000 cult classic. The idea of combining these characters got audiences hyped, especially given the A-Listers that make up the cast.

Additionally, Glass and Unbreakable almost serve as anti-comic book movies. They focus on the humanity in the characters, and only use action and superpowers once in a while. Considering how bloated the superhero genre has become, M. Night Shyamalan’s unique trilogy helps to serve as a palette cleanser. And while not everyone liked Glass as much as the previous two movies, that hasn’t stopped folks from shelling out at movie theaters to judge for themselves.

It should be interesting to see what comes next for M. Night Shyamalan. With the Unbreakable trilogy finally in theaters, his decades of work and development have come to fruition. And since Glass is making so much money, there should presumably be plenty of money for the director to bankroll his next project. But what could it be?

Glass is in theaters now. Be sure to check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

Bo Peep Returns In New Toy Story 4 Teaser

This summer we’ll see the return of some old friends with the gang from the Toy Story franchise returns to our screens. While many will be happy to see the likes of Woody and Buzz once again, they won’t be the only classic characters returning. Bo Peep, who was MIA during Toy Story 3 is set to return, and now we have our first look at the character. Check her out below.

Bo Peep has herself a whole new look. While the last we saw of her in Toy Story 2, she was dressed in the pink bonnet and full length dress, she has apparently traded that in for a more sensible set of clothes. We probably wouldn’t see her spin around on her shepherd’s crook like that in her old attire.

In Toy Story 3, Bo Peep received nothing more than a brief mention as one of the toys that had been lost between the second and third installments. We got no story as to where she went or why. The implication was that she’d been thrown away or given away, as many old toys are. It sounds, based on information released by Disney, that Bo Peep may have simply left Andy’s house on her own to go looking for adventure.

The early word on Toy Story 4 was that the film would actually be focusing on the romance between Bo Peep and Woody, and the plot will deal with our favorite’s cowboy’s attempt to reunite with his lost love. We knew that Toy Story 4 had gone through significant story changes over time, and whether or not that was the plan for the plot initially, it now seems that’s not quite the case.

Instead, based on a new synopsis that’s been released alongside this look at Bo Peep, it appears that the toy’s road trip happens because Bonnie brings them along on her family vacation. Woody and Peep seeing each other again sounds like it’s more of a coincidence, and while the pair may be happy to see each other again, things have changed a great deal for each of them during the last few years.

Along with the first look on Disney’s twitter, the studio has also released a new character poster for Bo Peep that makes her look ready to go out on a new adventure at any moment. How exactly Bo Peep, who is canonically a lamp, was able to change her outfit, is a question best answered by whoever knows where baby Cars come from.

Our first looks at the new film focused on brand new characters like the Tony Hale voiced Forky and a pair of carnival prizes played by Key and Peele. These new characters and all of our old friends will be back  for Toy Story 4 this June.

Wait, Could Killmonger Be Back For Black Panther 2 After All?

At the end of the now Oscar-nominated Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger met his tragic end. That seemingly made it unlikely that we would ever see him again, but you never say never, because maybe Killmonger could be back for Black Panther 2 after all. When Black Panther actress Angela Bassett was asked if all of the cast would be returning for the sequel, her husband Courtney B. Vance butted in and said this:

Oh boy. Is there some sort of spousal privilege thing at play or will Marvel hold Angela Bassett accountable for the actions of her husband? Speaking with ET at the SAG Awards Courtney B. Vance had no qualms about just coming out and saying matter-of-factly that all of the Black Panther cast will return for the sequel, including Michael B., and unless he is referring to a below-the-line Michael B., which seems unlikely, he means Michael B. Jordan.

Now this could be purely conjecture on the part of Courtney B. Vance. Last we heard, Ryan Coogler had signed on to return to write and direct, but we don’t know how far along that script is. That said, he could already know the overall story idea, and it’s not impossible that Courtney B. Vance knows some things that we don’t.

Considering where Black Panther left the character (dead) and how little we know about Black Panther 2 at the moment, this would obviously be a huge deal if true. Michael B. Jordan gave us one of the best comic book movie villains we’ve ever seen with Erik Killmonger and it would be kind of sad if we only got one movie with him, similar to Heath Ledger’s Joker (for different reasons, of course).

If Courtney B. Vance really let a spoiler slip here, there are some huge questions as to how exactly N’Jadaka will be in this movie after he willingly chose death over bondage at the end of the first film. We’ve speculated about Killmonger’s death being retconned through whatever time-travel/Quantum Realm shenanigans take place in Avengers: Endgame. The snapped heroes are certainly coming back, so it wouldn’t be impossible. These are comic book movies after all.

Yet, Killmonger had such a great arc in Black Panther, that to bring him back to life might cheapen the poetic ending of that film. But Killmonger doesn’t need to be resurrected for Michael B. Jordan to be in Black Panther 2. He could easily appear in flashbacks. But I think it’s more likely that he could appear to T’Challa in visions, either taunting him or acting as a voice in his head as he weighs out kingly decisions.

Killmonger also went to the Ancestral Plane by taking the Heart-Shaped Herb. Maybe, pending they figure out how to bring back the herb, T’Challa could meet his cousin in this realm.

We don’t know Black Panther 2’s release date yet, but we’ll keep you updated on that and any news of Michael B. Jordan’s return. Check out our 2019 release schedule to see the biggest movies hitting theaters this year, and stay tuned to CinemaBlend for all your comic book movie news.

Timothee Chalamet Didn’t Realize He Was Wearing S&M Gear To The Golden Globes

The entertainment aspect of Awards shows is multi-tiered. Aside from acceptance speeches, hosting duties, and musical numbers, there’s also the spectacle of the red carpet, and the fashions worn by beloved celebrities. A-listers are styled to the nines, especially if they happen to be nominated that year. Just look at Beautiful Boy‘s Timothee Chalamet, who rocked a black shirt and sparkling harness at this year’s Golden Globes.

Once photos from the red carpet hit the internet, plenty of movie fans took notice of Timothee Chalamet’s harness– especially as its an accessory typically used in the bedroom and within the S&M world. The 23-year-old actor recently spoke about his ignorance to the Golden Globes costume, revealing:

Talk about a wardrobe malfunction. While Timothee Chalamet’s stylists likely knew what a harness really was, it seemed the actor actually rocking it at the Golden Globes was blissfully unaware. That might be a good thing, as he might not have been so brave as to wear the sparkly accessory otherwise.

Timothee Chalamet’s comments are from his recent appearance on Ellen (via Huffington Post) are sure to pique interests for fashion fans who took notice with Chalamet’s Golden Globes get up. But in fact, he wasn’t the first or only actor recently wearing the S&M accessory on the red carpet. The trend arguably started with last year’s Oscars, as Olympian Adam Rippon wore a leather harness underneath his blazer. Check it out.

Almost a year later, and Timothee Chalamet has joined the trend. Even if the acclaimed Beautiful Boy and Call Me By Your Name actor didn’t exactly know what he was wearing. In juxtaposition, it seems like Adam Rippon knew exactly what he was doing– just check his caption.

The trend of wearing harnesses actually continued through last night’s Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. During the red carpet, Black Panther standout Michael B. Jordan wore a floral harness over his tux. Check out a photo of the evidence below, courtesy of Cosmo. Even Timothee Chalamet seemed tickled pink with the costume choice.

Harness bros forever. Ok maybe that’s pushing it, but you have to commend Michael B. Jordan and Timothee Chalamet for making such bold costume choices. Whether or not Jordan knew the roots of the accessory are still a mystery.

CinemaBlend will keep you updated on Awards Season– especially if another celeb shows up at the upcoming Oscars in a harness. In the meantime, be sure to check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.

Michael Jackson’s Estate Has Responded To The Sex Abuse Documentary

A new documentary about Michael Jackson was destined to drum up controversy and now the late singer’s estate has responded. Leaving Neverland debuted at the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend and follows two adults who claim that when they were children they were sexually abused by the singer. Shortly after the documentary’s debut in Park City, UT, the estate of the late performer issued a statement claiming that the two accusers were liars and questioning the documentary status of the film. The statement reads, in part…

Accusations of child abuse plagued Michael Jackson a great deal during the latter portion of the singer’s life. Lawsuits were filed but as the statement (via Variety) point out, they were dismissed. Jackson was also charged in Santa Barbara court with child molestation, but he was acquitted of the charges.

There was really no way that a documentary about Michael Jackson dealing with this portion of his life was not going to court controversy and backlash. For many the truth of this situation has never been revealed. Jackson was one of the most famous people who has ever lived and his eclectic lifestyle only increased the scrutiny.

The statement goes on to accuse one of the accusers of only bringing forward his allegations after he was denied a part in a Michael Jackson themed Cirque du Soleil show. While he did accuse Jackson of behaving improperly, he had apparently previously gone on record denying the singer had ever done anything to him, which the statement uses to question his credibility.

In the end, the Jackson Estate claims that Leaving Neverland does a disservice to those that have truly been victims of sex abuse, stating that these allegations are about nothing more than making money and achieving celebrity.

As inflammatory as the new documentary may be, it’s unlikely to change anything. many have made up their minds about Michael Jackson’s guilt on this topic. Those that defend him likely won’t be dissuaded by this film, and those that believe Jackson was guilty likely don’t need the support.

How To See Alita: Battle Angel Weeks Before It Opens In Theaters

Early screenings tend to be a vote of confidence. It’s going to be one huge Alita evening, and I don’t think you will want to miss it.

Fans can RSVP to the free screenings via Also, fans can submit questions for the filmmakers and cast on James Cameron’s newly launched official Instagram @JamesCameronOfficial and Facebook @OfficialJamesCameron pages in the comments section using the hashtag #ExperienceAlita.

Patty Jenkins Confirms When Wonder Woman 3 Will Be Set

Patty Jenkins doesn’t need Wonder Woman‘s Lasso of Truth to share her thoughts on the DCEU. She recently said she had plans for Wonder Woman 3, and a vision for how Diana Prince’s arc should end. That said, we’re still more than a year away from Wonder Woman 1984, and Wonder Woman 3 has yet to get an official green light from Warner Bros. Still, her comments got fans thinking the potential story and timeline for Wonder Woman 3. Would it be another period piece or perhaps even send Diana into the future? Here’s how Jenkins answered:

So Patty Jenkins was willing to confirm to THR that Wonder Woman 3 would definitely be a contemporary story. That might put Diana Prince just after the timelines of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince made her debut in BvS, which was set a year-and-a-half after the first DCEU movie, Man of Steel. From there, we went back in time for her Wonder Woman origin story, meeting Steve Trevor during the World War I setting. Both Diana and (somehow) Steve Trevor are returning for Wonder Woman‘s sequel, Wonder Woman 1984, which helpfully included its timeline right in the title.

Chris Pine has already said he’s done with Steve Trevor after Wonder Woman 1984. Saying goodbye to Steve (again) before Wonder Woman 3 would make sense. Otherwise why wouldn’t we have at least heard from Steve in the contemporary timelines of BvS or Justice League?

Wonder Woman 1984 wrapped filming in December 2018, and Gal Gadot shared some photos and gushing love for the cast and crew. She clearly had a great time making the movie, and must also be excited to keep going with another film.

Wonder Woman was a huge hit for Warner Bros./DC, especially at the domestic box office, where it remains the top-grossing domestic film of the DCEU. Aquaman has the overall DCEU title (and DC in general) with a worldwide gross over $1 billion, but fans in North America were particularly fond of Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman 1984 has a lot to live up to, but even if it doesn’t surpass Wonder Woman at the box office, or with fans and critics, it still seems like DC/WB would let Patty Jenkins continue her vision into Wonder Woman 3. If she has an idea for how Diana’s story arc should end, in some kind of contemporary timeline, then we should be able to see that play out. Warner Bros. seems to be on a new path after the success of Aquaman, with the new plan to focus less on the shared universe and more on the individual movies and directors’ visions.

Wonder Woman 1984 is scheduled to open June 5, 2020, which is almost exactly three years since the release of Wonder Woman in June 2017. Does that suggest Wonder Woman 3 would open in 2023? Maybe, maybe not.

For now, Patty Jenkins is busy promoting I Am the Night, which she directed and executive produced, with Wonder Woman‘s Chris Pine in the lead role. That six-episode series premieres tonight (Monday, Jan. 28) at 9/8c on TNT.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Cut A Funny Spider-Man Musical Joke

Spider-Man has been a part of pop culture since 1962 and in that time the web-head has seemingly done everything. There have been so many movies about the character in the last two decades that it’s getting almost ridiculous. However, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse found some great success in making that fact part of the story itself. One corner of Spider-Man history that didn’t make it in to the movie, unfortunately, but was originally planned, was a joke aimed at the disastrous Spider-Man Broadway musical. According to producer Phil Lord

Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark is one of the most infamous Broadway musicals in history. The show was incredibly expensive to produce and included numerous technical effects to create Spider-Man’s web slinging that frequently went wrong, sometimes resulting in injury. The other thing tat made the show incredibly high profile was that all the music was written by U2’s Bono and The Edge. All this would have been ok, if the show had been been, you know, any good. However, it reviewed pretty poorly as well and thus only lasted about three years on the stage, not nearly as long as it took to produce it. The show has become legend in both the history of Broadway and the history of Spider-Man.

It seems like Turn Off the Dark is one of the few aspects of Spider-Man history that doesn’t have a little fun poked at it over the course of the film. It’s not too shocking that there actually was a joke referencing the show. Unfortunately, Phil Lord tells SyFy the joke was just one too many and it needed to be trimmed out.

Honestly, a powwow between the various Spider-Men just comparing notes on how the character has been handled in each universe sounds like a fabulous idea for the film and I could probably watch a 30-minute special on that alone. Just all the different characters trying to explain the most bonkers Spider-Man related thing that happens where they live. A Spider-Man Broadway musical with music by U2 is definitely up there. I’m assuming U2 is a thing in all universes.

Of course, there’s always the possibility that a similar joke could find its way into a future Spider-Man movie. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse has already seen sequels and spinoffs greenlit, so there will be plenty of future opportunity for jokes about Spider-Man that didn’t get made the first time around.
