Shazam! Director Reveals Behind The Scenes Look At His Cameo

Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Shazam!

Big movies will often have fun cameos from their directors and DC’s Shazam! is no different. Director David F. Sandberg did show up in his delightful first foray into superhero moviemaking, but you could be forgiven for not spotting him. While many of Shazam!’s cameos are front and center for the audience to see, David F. Sandberg’s is very well hidden. The director recently revealed his cameo though and the process that went in to making it happen. Check it out:

The way David F. Sandberg presents this behind the scenes is funny, because when you first see him with his head covered in some kind of mold, you start wracking your brain trying to remember the movie and figure out what this cameo could possibly be. Or at least I did. The director was clearly getting fitted for some sort of molded costume and as you scroll through his Instagram pictures, you discover what that costume was.

David F. Sandberg cameoed as one of the Crocodile Men towards the end of the film, and it was clearly quite the involved process to make this cameo happen. Once the molds were made, we see that David F. Sandberg got to wear and test out a remote controlled crocodile head helmet that he could move with and snap its jaws. The prosthetic croc head even had the ability to electronically control the movement of the eyes and the eyelids.

The whole thing honestly looks ridiculous and kind of fun, if not a little stuffy. This also makes it plainly obvious why you could watch Shazam! a thousand times and not spot David F. Sandberg’s cameo without his reveal here. Quite a bit of work went in to making this practical effect and cameo happen, which is admirable considering that it could have just been done with CGI (without the cameo) for what was ultimately a very quick shot.

The cameo occurs towards the end of the movie, when Shazam and his foster siblings are trying to escape from the Rock of Eternity and Doctor Sivana and they come to a cavern filled with many doors to the Seven Realms. They begin opening doors to find a way out and one of those doors had the strange sight of three crocodile men in suits playing cards in it.

As David F. Sandberg shows in his Instagram, this isn’t an invention for the film but an Easter egg that has a basis in the comics. The Crocodile Men of the planet Punkus are villains of Shazam and members of the Monster Society of Evil.

This is quite a cool cameo that doubles as an Easter egg, and also shows how much fun David F. Sandberg wanted to have in this. He could have just shown up in the crowd during the bus scene or at the Christmas carnival at the end of the film but he went all out to do something different. There’s nothing wrong with more traditional cameos but its fitting that the horror director wanted to get a monster costume for his cameo.

David F. Sandberg’s heavily concealed appearance was far from the only cameo in Shazam! The film also featured a host of cameos from actors like Adam Brody as members of the adult Shazam Family, the appearance of which was a well-guarded secret prior to the film’s release. There was also something of a half-cameo by Superman at the end of the film, although it was not Henry Cavill.

Shazam! is now playing. Check out our 2019 Release Schedule to keep track of all this year’s biggest movies and stay tuned to CinemaBlend for all your movie news.

Khalid Starts A New Conversation On ‘Talk (Remix)’ With Megan Thee Stallion And Yo Gotti

For the remix to Khalid‘s pleading single “Talk,” the baritone crooner brought some rappers along to add a poetic edge. Burgeoning rapstress Megan Thee Stallion and trap rap stalwart Yo Gotti spit rhymes to the smooth production courtesy of Disclosure that enables the official remix to soar to new heights. Not only is it an adorable song about falling in love, but it’s also a tight amalgam of melody and bars that shows there’s always room to connect the two.

Megan Thee Stallion starts the song off with her sneering flow that practically brushes the dirt off its shoulders as she goes along. She knows she’s one of the best, and, in her verse, she’s letting you know it too. You’d be a fool to waste a chance at her. When she drips into some chilly melodies at the tail end of it, she reveals herself a double threat. Yo Gotti comes in at the end, after Khalid’s vocals of course, and raps about a woman that he’s having some problems with. His “talk” with her isn’t to get closer, he’s in the process of separating himself. Her father is a police officer so he doesn’t want to ever meet him.

Khalid released his sophomore studio album Free Spirit on April 5. It features the previously released songs “Self” and “Talk.” He also shared a film of the same name directed by esteemed music video director Emil Nava.

Star Wars Episode IX’s Title Has Been Revealed, And It’s Epic

There is arguably no film franchise quite as beloved as Star Wars. George Lucas’ colorful galaxy has delighted moviegoers for decades, resulting in generations of hardcore fans. And with Disney acquiring Lucasfilm, the past few years have come with new releases, expanding the space opera through spinoffs and main installments. The latter have considerably higher stakes, and J.J. Abrams will end the current trilogy and overall Skywalker Saga with his mysterious Episode IX.

The movie might be coming this December, but Star Wars has been keeping its cards close to the chest regarding the film’s contents. Furthermore, we haven’t even been privy to its title or any footage. But that changed with this week’s annual Star Wars Celebration, which debuted the Episode IX‘s official title (and first teaser). It is called The Rise Of Skywalker.

The Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Trailer Is Here, And It Just Revealed A Major Character Return

The end of an era is almost upon us. The Star Wars saga is wrapping up the Skywalker Saga later with year with the release of Episode IX. Well, after all this time waiting, we finally have our first trailer for Episode IX, or as it’s officially known, Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. As if that wasn’t a big enough deal, it revealed that Emperor Palpatine, a.k.a. Darth Sidious, is back. Check it out!

Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker opens in theaters on December 20, so keep checking back with CinemaBlend for continuing coverage. In the meantime, look through our 2019 release schedule to learn what other movies are coming out this year.

The Meghan Markle ‘Duchess Difficult’ Rumors Just Won’t Stop—and This One Is Bizarre

Late last year, rumors started flying that Meghan Markle was a quote-unquote “difficult” duchess. Apparently, she’s been upsetting dozens of palace staff members by having the audacity to—gasp—send emails at 5:30 in the morning. This “up and at ’em West Coast energy,” as The Daily Mail put it in November, is reportedly rubbing some the wrong way—so much so, tabloids have coined the phrase “Hurricane Meghan.”

It’s obvious this narrative is a complete exaggeration. Royals expert Katie Nicholl confirmed as much to Glamour when she said, “Meghan brings a different regime to the palace. She does things differently. She’s a very intelligent, articulate, and driven woman. I think she works at a different speed than most people. She’s got an incredible work ethic. But I think it’s a case of her getting used to a new regime, and the new regime getting used to her. There’s nothing that can’t be ironed out.”

But nevertheless the “diva” rumors are persisting—and this latest one is particularly bizarre. According to The Sun, staff members at Frogmore Cottage, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s new home, have been “banned” from using the parking lot closest to the residence and instead must use the one a mile away.

The sources who spoke to The Sun seem to confirm a change in parking permits is happening, but here’s the kicker: It reportedly was the superintendent of the castle’s decision, not Markle’s. And yet all the tabloids reporting this story are making it seem like Markle woke up and randomly decreed, “You know what would be fun? Forcing all the staff members to walk a mile to work each day.” The headline in one article starts with “Not in Meg Back Yard,” which is apparently the acronym insiders are using to describe this change. That makes it sound like Markle is the one behind the choice.

Which is frustrating. This is a woman who bakes banana bread in her free time and says the word “wonderful” like a Disney princess. I find it hard to believe she’s changing the parking situation at Frogmore just because she and Prince Harry “don’t want to look out of their window and see cars coming and going,” as one source claims. Meghan Markle does yoga, for crying out loud. She’s calm. She’s zen. She’s doesn’t give a fuck if the chef’s 2007 Toyota Camry is parked outside her house. She’s too busy deciding which vegan paint color her new living room should be.

In all seriousness, there’s probably a perfectly logical reason why the parking at Frogmore Cottage is changing—and my guess is it has nothing to do with Markle being “difficult.” It’s ridiculous that ambitious and opinionated women are still getting strapped with that word in 2019. If this story is true, and the Frogmore staff does feel inconvenienced, I wouldn’t be surprised if Markle starts some kind of shuttle service to accommodate them. It’ll be a luxurious-as-hell service, too, with leather seats and TV screens playing old Suits episodes on a loop. Mark my words.

First Look At Billy Dee Williams Back As Lando Calrissian In Star Wars: Episode IX

Although we recently reunited with Lando Calrissian in Solo: A Star Wars Story, that was with Donald Glover playing a younger version of the future Cloud City administrator. As far as Billy Dee Williams’ version is concerned, it’s been almost 40 years since we last saw him on the big screen in Return of the Jedi, but that finally changes later this year in Star Wars: Episode IX. Now we finally have our first look at Williams’ Lando back in action. Check it out!

As you can see, rather than wear the same kind of duds he wore in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Billy Dee Williams’ Lando Calrissian has pulled from his Solo: A Star Wars Story wardrobe, donning a yellow shirt like the one Donald Glover wore. However, if there’s one consistent thing we can expect from any iteration from Lando, it’s a cape, and Williams looks great wearing one of those again.

As for Lando Calrissian’s location in this Star Wars: Episode IX picture, while I originally thought it was the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, the ship that belonged to him before Han Solo won it in a game of sabacc, it’s also possible this is simply someone’s humble abode somewhere in a galaxy far, far away. Either way, Lando’s doing a spectacular job of brightening the room.

JJ Abrams Confirms Star Wars: Episode IX Will Have A Time Jump

Star Wars Celebration is finally under way and that means we’re getting our first real details about Star Wars Episode IX. Stephen Colbert gosted the Episode IX panel and, while there is so much that he can’t ask, he did ask director J.J. Abrams about how the movie will start off based on how The Last Jedi ended. Abrams confirmed that the new film will pick up some amount of time after The Last Jedi, and also that all of our heroes will be working together throughout the film. According to Abrams…

The movie doesn’t pick up immediately after the last film. Some time has gone by and what I’ll say is that in this movie, and you can tell by that picture is the very beginning of it, but this is an adventure that the group goes on together.

The picture in question is the one up above, that was shown during the Episode IX panel. It shows all of our heroes, Rey, Finn, Poe, and C-3PO and BB-8, all together outside the Millennium Falcon. This will be where the story begins. Wherever it goes from here, these characters will apparently all go together.

All of the Star Wars saga films saw significant time jumps between episodes. The one exception being Star Wars: The Last Jedi. That movie picked up immediate following the previous entry. Now we know the last film in the arc will be a return to the previous form.

The other thing that has been interesting about the current saga has been the way main characters have been separated. Rey, Finn, and Poe, spent pretty much all of The Last Jedi doing their own thing, but even beyond that, Rey and Poe had never so much as met until the end of that movie.

Mark Ronson’s New Album Of ‘Sad Bangers’ Features Miley, Camila, And More

Mark Ronson‘s new album is going to be an extravagant affair. The producer has revealed the tracklist to his forthcoming album Late Night Feelings and it’s quite the doozy. With features from artists like Miley Cyrus, Camila Cabello, and Alicia Keys, his new EP looks like it will be his largest, most flexible pop-centric opus yet, tinged with a dash of melancholy. You can hear it on the title track, featuring Lykke Li.

Late Night Feelings is due out June 21 via RCA Records. As Billboard points out, he’s previously described the project as a selection of “sad bangers,” and after seeing the tracklist’s plethora of emotional vocalists, it makes sense.

In addition to Miley, Camila, and Alicia, the 13-track LP also features King Princess, YEBBA, The Last Artful, Dodgr, Angel Olsen, Diana Gordon, and Ilsey.

So far, two tracks from Late Night Feelingshave been released: “Nothing Breaks Like A Heart,” Ronson’s collaboration with Cyrus, and the title track, which you can listen to above. The LP follows his 2015 album Uptown Special.

Check out the full tracklist below.

02. “Late Night Feelings” (ft. Lykke Li)

03. “Find U Again” (ft. Camila Cabello)

Bumblebee Director Has Plans For A Potential Sequel

Bumblebee was a very different sort of Transformers movie, and while it didn’t put up Michael Bay like numbers at the box office, it was much better received by critics and others who had been more critical of the more explosion-heavy entries in the series. While more Transformers movies are certainly coming, we have little idea what they will actually be. However, if anybody is looking for ideas, they should ask Bumblebee director Travis Knight, because he’s apparently already got several potential movies mapped out in his head.

The word on the street is that development has begin on a direct sequel to Bumblebee, and if that’s the case, and the studio wants to bring director Travis Knight back to make it, it sounds like he would love to return and he could also give that development some direction. According to Knight…

Bumblebee told the story of the popular Autobot’s arrival on Earth where he befriends a teenage girl named Charlie, played by Hailee Steinfeld. The movie ends with Charlie and Bumblebee parting ways, as Bumblebee reunites with Optimus Prime. However, it sounds like, based on what he tells, THR, if Travis Knight gets his way, all of these characters would come together for a sequel. Steinfeld had previously told me in an interview that she would be up for a sequel, as would John Cena if the option was there, so it sounds like all the necessary humans are ready and willing.

We were expecting a new proper sequel to the main Transformers franchise to hit this year but the film was pulled from the release schedule last year and we haven’t heard much about it since. Franchise producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has previously stated that the next Transformers movie will aim to combine elements of the main series and Bumblebee, something that has the more emotional character story of Bumblebee while still having plenty of “Bayhem” for those who love the city-destroying action sequences the series is known for.

As one of those people who preferred Bumblebee to any other Transformers movie, and was also a big fan of Kubo and the Two Strings, I would love to see Travis Knight return to make another Bumblebee movie. Whether or not it will happen we’ll need to wait and see, but we can be sure that something new will happen with the Transformers movies before too long.
